Austin
Milward
Place of birthLondon
Austin Milward can lay claim to a rare feat as he made his British Bobsleigh debut not on the Europa Cup, North American Cup or even World Cup circuits but at the 2024 World Championships.
Austin joined the GB set up in the summer of 2023 but injury prevented him from racing until the showpiece event of the season in Winterberg in March.
Having only ever taken part in training on ice, Milward stepped into Adam Baird’s 4-man sled for the biggest event of the year, finishing 18th in Germany alongside Jens Hullah and Callum Dixon.
Prior to starting life as a bobsledder, Austin played College American Football in the United States. Having been medically discharged from American Football due to Grave's Disease, he headed back to the UK and was spotted training in the gym at the University of Bath by Baird and was subsequently encouraged to switch sports.
He previously enjoyed success in judo and in rugby but now has his sights on making an Olympic Winter Games.
Outside of sport, Austin spent part of his childhood in Russia and now runs his own business focussing on young men’s development, including strength and conditioning and therapy. He has also written a book.
