Ashleigh Nelson made the switch to bobsleigh during the 2024/25 off season following a highly successful athletics career.
A double Summer Olympian, Ashleigh featured at both the 2008 Games in Beijing and the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
Ashleigh made history in 2014 by becoming the first female British sprinter in 40 years to win a European 100m medal when she took bronze in the continental championships in Zurich. She also won 4x100m gold for Great Britain at the same meet, just a matter of days after winning relay bronze for England at the Commonwealth Games in a sensational summer.
She won 4x100m silver at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, six years after claiming bronze in the same event in Moscow, and she earned the honour of captaining Great Britain for the European Championships in Munich in August 2022.
Ashleigh’s first taste of bobsleigh came at the University of Bath push track in the summer of 2024 and she was selected for her first race in January 2025. She teamed up with an injured Adelé Nicoll on debut at the World Cup in Winterberg, meaning her first competitive run in a bobsleigh saw her push not only a sled but also her pilot as Nicoll was forced to sit in rather than push.
She had to wait another six weeks for her second appearance when she and Nicoll impressed with a seventh-place finish in Lillehammer for Nicoll’s best result of the season.
Having impressed in her two race performances and in testing, Ashleigh was selected to the World Championship team for the showpiece event of the year in Lake Placid in March.
