Richard Moon brings a wealth of experience in both the sporting and HR legal sectors to his role on the Board of the BBSA having been a participant and administrator of sport at community level all the way up to elite performance.
Richard is a freelance sports reporter for the BBC and can be heard most weekends commentating on live rugby for BBC Coventry & Warwickshire and 5 Live Sports Extra and covers other key sporting events that take place in the Midlands. He is also a Trustee of British Blind Sport, which is the national disability sports charity for children and adults with sight loss.
Prior to this, he was a lawyer for 34 years and a Partner specialising in Employment and Sports Law at Blythe Liggins in Leamington Spa.
He is passionate about all sports but rugby is the one he excelled at, representing both his country at international level and the Barbarians. He followed up his playing career both in Wales and England by joining the RFU with the accolade of being the youngest Council member when he represented Cambridge University. During his time at the RFU, he chaired disciplinary panels and acted as a citing officer for World Rugby.
Richard founded the Rugby Union Players’ Association and the Elite Cricket Coaches Association to protect and support the rights of players and coaches in the professional game.
He is Chairman of his village cricket club where he regularly keeps wicket in the Saturday team and helped to steer the club up through the divisions in the Cotswold Hills League. He enjoys the countryside with his wife, three cocker spaniels and small flock of chickens.
