Winfield appointed Interim Chair
Steve Winfield has been appointed Interim Chair of the British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association following the resignation of Joanna Poulton after three-and-a-half years in post.
Winfield has sat as Senior Independent Director on the Board of the BBSA since 2019 and he begins his new role immediately.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, he has a 30-year career in Financial Services and Banking and has previously held executive responsibility at Board level as a Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Having begun his non-executive director career in 2007, he has held a number of Chair, INED and Board member roles with the likes of the Greyhound Board of Great Britain, AGT Ltd, Funeral Planning Authority, Costs Lawyer Standards Board, Association of Residential Managing Agents and the British Horse Racing Authority.
Poulton joined the BBSA in April 2019 and has overseen compliance with UK Sport’s Code of Governance and a return to UK Sport funding for Bobsleigh and reinvestment for Skeleton.
With UK Sport having announced the BBSA as the delivery arm for its public funding for bobsleigh and skeleton for year one only of the current Olympic campaign, Poulton’s resignation is as a result of her strongly held beliefs that UK Sport’s current proposal to fund, support and regulate elite performance programmes away from the BBSA in years two, three and four of the 2026 Milan Cortina cycle is misguided. The Board of the BBSA continues to work with UKS to ensure that all aspects of UK Sport’s proposal are fully considered.
