Mapp adds World Champs gold to WC title

Corie Mapp is the new Para Bobsleigh World Champion after a stunning Valentine's Day success in St Moritz.
Mapp took the biggest prize in the sport in style at the spiritual home of sliding as he cemented his status as the globe’s greatest para bobsledder.
The 46-year-old finished three tenths of a second ahead of his nearest rival to add the World Championship crown to the Overall World Cup title he won earlier this month.
He clocked a four-run time of 4 minutes 54.03 seconds, with the lead he built from the fastest times in Run 1 and 2 on Thursday proving enough to secure his first World Championship win at the ninth time of asking.
Mapp won the Overall World Cup in 2018, 2024 and 2025 and the European Championships in 2019 and 2024 and he now becomes the first British man to win a bobsleigh World Championship title since Tony Nash and Robin Dixon triumphed in St Moritz sixty years ago.
“This win is very emotional for me: it’s something that I’ve wanted for so long and something that we’ve tried so hard to achieve,” said Mapp.
The stars definitely aligned for this one. Everything went the way we wanted it to go and I’m incredibly grateful for this success.
“I feel rejuvenated in the sport and I feel like I’ve got a lot left in me to carry on and to keep trying to win trophies.
“I’ll definitely continue to push myself to be the best version of myself for the BBSA, for Great Britain and for Barbados.”
Corie Mapp is the 2025 World Champion
Today’s victory takes Mapp’s total World Championship, World Cup, Overall World Cup and European Championship medal tally to a staggering 60 since he first represented Great Britain a decade ago.
He celebrated his third Overall World Cup title - and his second in a row - after picking up six medals in eight World Cup races this term but he made it clear throughout the season that World Championship gold was the one he really wanted.
The former soldier and double amputee won bronze last year and in 2017, as well as silver in 2019, but he can now claim to have won every major medal in the sport.
“Huge thanks to everyone who has a hand in my success,” added Mapp.
I’ve now won the Grand Slam and long may this continue.
“I have to refer back to the bigger British Bobsleigh team again - they are genuine motivation for me. The way they embraced me and helped me in pre-season set up this entire campaign and I want to thank them for that. I also want to thank Tom (De La Hunty) because I couldn’t have achieved what I did here without him helping me coaching wise with a few things about the track that had been giving me trouble this week.
“Big thanks, too, to the Household Calvary Foundation, to my sponsors and to everyone who’s helped make this happen. I’m extremely grateful for their support and I hope I’ve made you all proud.”
