Final monobob race cancelled
The final women’s monobob race of the season has been cancelled as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The eighth race of the monobob campaign had been set to take place in Lake Placid in the United States on April 3.
The race was due to be preceded by an International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) Development Camp but that, too, has been cancelled.
The decision comes shortly after the Para Bobsleigh World Championships scheduled for Lillehammer in Norway on March 24 and 25 were cancelled for the same reason.
The IBSF have released the following short statement:
“Due to the travel restrictions and general concerns following the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) decided to cancel the Women´s Monobob race and the Development camp in Lake Placid, USA, scheduled for 23 March - 3 April 2020.
“The IBSF wants to thank NYS Olympic Regional Development Authority and the track management in Lake Placid for their great support in this challenging time for all of us.”
The cancellation of the Para Bobsleigh World Championships and the last mononbob race means that the 2019/20 international racing season has now officially come to an end.
